Photography Group Show

May 1, 2010 - May 14, 2010

Dana's exhibition will take place in our second gallery two doors east of our current location in the distillery. Dana will show two series' of images created after a visit to Cambodia in 2004-2005. The first, entitled 'Only Their Portraits Remain' was photographed in Phnom Penh. It is a collection of works which portray the faces of the estimated 17,000 political prisoners who lost their lives in Security Prison 21 during the Cambodian Genocide from 1975 - 1979.

The second series is entitled 'Reamker.' The Reamker is an epic Cambodian poem based on India's Ramayana epic. In the Reamker, issues of trust, loyalty, love, and revenge play out in dramatic encounters among princes and giants, monkeys and mermaids, and a forlorn princess.

Dana took the Reamker photographs in the Royal Palace in the capital city Phnom Penh of a mural based on the epic poem and commissioned by the king for The Silver Pagoda in 1903-04. The mural was produced by an army of painters and spans 642 meters in length. The photos capture the the effects of environmental and human factors on the mural in the 100 years since its creation.

In addition to Dana's 30+ pieces we will have a collection of exceptional photographic work from artists Jim Allen, Scott Johnston, Karen Pearlmutter, Ryan Van Der Hout, Michael Davis, Kamelia Pezeshki, Nelson French, Arkan Zakharov, James Storie, Susan Collacott, Margaret Glew, Dave Shuken and Kevin Kelly.
